MK 677 for Height Growth: Does It Work?

SARMs (selective androgen receptor modulators) have been taking the fitness world by storm, giving users a range of benefits that no other compounds seem to. Despite the lack of FDA approval, fitness experts and amateurs alike swear by these, for the incredible fat loss and bulking benefits that they provide. 

MK 677, though not a SARM, is often talked about in the same breath as SARMs, which is why it is completely understandable if you thought MK 677 was in the SARM family. It is hailed as a wonder for its ability to not only increase your muscle mass, but also give you better skin, hair, sleep, stronger bones and a faster recovery rate. 

However, apart from the wonderful aforementioned benefits, MK 677 may also have another trick up its sleeve—height growth! Many folks claim MK 677 can fill in the gaps and help where all those jump squats and unfortunate genes failed. 

So can MK 677 make you taller? Read on for an in-depth analysis!

MK 677, also known as ibutamoren or Nutrobal, is a growth-hormone secretagogue (GHS), which means that it encourages the production of natural growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in the body, both of which contribute to growth.

It does this by mimicking the hormone ghrelin and activating the ghrelin receptor, which in turn activates the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, resulting in the release of GH and IGF-1. S

ARMs, on the other hand, work similarly to steroids, binding to your androgen receptors and altering your DNA to give you that buff look you’ve been dreaming of.

Studies show that MK 677 is capable of producing the following benefits in users:

However, it’s not all roses and candies with MK 677; it has its share of side effects. But don’t worry—these aren’t incurable or life threatening. The most serious and common side effects of MK 677 are increased hunger and water retention (edema), especially in the extremities.

An increase in hunger is not really a problem if you’re eating clean and keeping an eye on what you put into your body.

Water retention is extremely rare, and even if it does happen, tends to go away within a couple of weeks and with sufficient water intake.

Sometimes, users may also experience headaches, but this is not because of the MK 677 itself; it could be because of water retention, insufficient water intake, or low-quality products. 

Another rare but possible side effect of MK 677 is reported to be reduced sensitivity to insulin. This side effect affects a very small population, but it cannot be ignored that it does! 

This is especially problematic for those suffering from type 2 diabetes. However, studies exist that indicate that MK 677 doesn’t affect the levels of glucose in the blood at all. So again, it is more likely that any reduced insulin sensitivity is an impact of substandard MK 677, and not MK 677 itself. 

Long story short, yes! Many studies show that MK 677 can, indeed, increase your height. It does, after all, directly impact the GH levels in the body. However, one size doesn’t fit all, and MK 677 cannot increase the height of absolutely everybody that takes it.

Whether or not you can grow taller with MK 677 depends on your growth plates and how open or closed they may be. Closed growth plates mean that further growth is not possible naturally or even with MK 677 and growth-hormone therapy in the picture; surgery is the only other alternative.

If the growth plates are open, MK 677 is free to work its magic and result in height growth via a growth spurt, so you get two growth spurts where everyone else only has one!

When Do Growth Plates Close? 

Growth plates generally close between the age of 13 and 16 for girls; this can vary and some girls have grown even after hitting sweet 16. For boys, on the other hand, growth plates close between the ages of 18 and 22, and sometimes remain open even till 24!

Hitting puberty is the most obvious indicator that your growth plates will soon be closing. Growth plates start closing towards the end of puberty, which is 16-18 for the ladies and 21-25 for the gentlemen.

Some folks are luckier than the rest of us; their growth plates remain open for a year or two post puberty, which means that there is still some time for growth to occur with the help of MK 677. Post this, neither MK 677 nor GH shots can help you with your growth!

There’s no definite way to tell when growth plates close since each body is unique. If you’re really curious to know whether your growth plates have closed yet, an X-ray is the only option! 

Using MK 677 for height growth isn’t a quick fix. Therefore, you can’t suddenly shoot up overnight like Jack’s beanstalk, but you can expect a good 2-3 inches (5-10 cm) a year. 

It’ll take at least a couple of months (or even 6 months) for the whole works, from the MK 677 stimulating your GH and IGF-1 production to that translating into an increase in your height.

Once the MK 677 is settled in, you can expect to grow about an inch (3 cm) every 3-6 months. Growth spurts will happen every 3-6 months. Again, this depends on your own unique body, so while others may see a growth of an inch, you may see a growth of 2 or 4 inches in the first year. 

How much you grow will also depend on your age and as mentioned earlier, how open or closed your growth plates are. Some studies that tested MK 677’s impacts on individuals for a year, state that subjects over 25 didn’t grow, whereas those below 18 grew at least an inch in the period. Those whose growth had stalled while still in the relevant age group also saw a spurt in their growth. 

If you’ve done your research on growing taller, you know that growth hormone shots are a very possible alternative. MK 677 works with what it has—your body and its natural facilities—whereas GH shots involve the injection of huge amounts of foreign GH into your body. 

If you’re looking for noticeable, fast, significant results, GH shots are more effective and worth a ‘shot’; if you have the financial resources, that is! 

Yep, GH shots are super expensive and can coolly set you back by as much as $10,000. Additionally, you may want to consider the fact that these shots shut down the natural GH production in the body owing to the enormous amounts of foreign GH your body suddenly has. 

On the other hand, MK 677 works with your body’s GH production units, boosting them, and is a whole lot more affordable—win-win-win! However, you won’t see the kind of results that you would see with GH shots. Whether you prioritize results over safety/fewer side effects and a lower price, is ultimately left to you!

• Does it work after puberty/closing of growth plates? No. 

MK 677 can give you quite an impressive result, provided your growth plates are still open. Remember, MK 677 won’t work overnight; it is meant to be taken in the long term for results to show. The compound itself can take between 3-6 months to kick in, and once it does, you can expect to grow every 3 months. 

Therefore, patience is key. It may be a fast world with fast—even immediate—results, but good things take time. If you can’t wait, GH shots are an option you can consider, but bear in mind the expenses and possible side effects of the process. 

Don’t just be drawn in by advertisements and the unreal body image and results that are portrayed in them. 

Remember to measure yourself before you start your cycle and then at 3 or 6-month intervals; this way, you’ll know for sure what your progress is, or if it’s too late for MK 677 to be making a difference in your growth. If it’s the latter, don’t be disheartened. It may sound cliche, but cliches do exist for a reason—you’re great the way you are!
